Thru Unveils Thru OptiBAND™

New technology will change the way remote workforces send and share data, especially industries that depend on satellite connections and face the problem of high latencies like logistics, maritime industries and remote offices

Irving, TX, October 10, 2016 — Thru, a leading global provider of enterprise file sharing and collaboration solutions, today announced its new Thru OptiBAND™ solution that guarantees delivery of files and messages irrespective of limited, long-distance networks like satellite connections. OptiBAND couples Thru’s new adaptive and dynamic bandwidth management with Thru’s existing powerful EFSS solution.

Gartner, a leading analyst firm, recently positioned Thru as a leading player in the 2016 Magic Quadrant for Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing and highlighted Thru OptiBAND as an innovative technology. “Thru optimizes data transmissions on satellite connections, with dynamic adjustment of bandwidth enabled by Thru’s OptiBAND technology.”

The new solution allows users to dynamically allocate bandwidth consumed in the messaging channel and compresses files to save bandwidth. It keeps file transfer bandwidth throttled to the predetermined level for Thru users and automatically detects changes in speed. Thru OptiBAND makes allocation adjustments automatically by continuously monitoring transmission speeds and reacting to connection changes, such as switching from VSAR to WiFi connections. The product uses rule-based prioritization to reorder high priority messages based on users. At the same time, it is a self-learning system that uses a patent-pending statistics-based algorithm to continuously improve the system’s ability to conform to bandwidth limits.

Thru OptiBAND addresses slow connection speeds by applying a combination of Thru’s accelerated content delivery network, which uses parallel block streaming and data caching. It allocates bandwidth based on roles, prioritizes file transfers in real time and easily resumes uploads/downloads after an outage. In cases of network interruptions, Thru OptiBAND transfers data once connections are restored. With the benefit of file transfer checkpoint restart, it automatically picks up transfers where they left off from the last byte transferred. Administrators receive detailed bandwidth outage and connection speeds logs in addition to secure delivery and end-to-end tracking.

Thru OptiBAND will improve the secure delivery of files and messages irrespective of limited, long-distance networks in the worldwide shipping and logistics industry, the cruise line industry or remote offices. With Thru OptiBAND, businesses will be able to reduce costs on satellite connections and stay on top of their mission critical needs.

“The latest product from Thru is the first of its kind on the market,” says Lee Harrison, CEO of Thru. “It was designed to deliver a smooth and secure file sharing and collaboration experience to users over high latency connections. We are eager to offer this service that will drastically change the way people do business from sea or remote offices.”
