It is reported by The Radicati Group that “In 2015, the number of worldwide email users will be nearly 2.6 billion. By the end of 2019, the number of worldwide email users will increase to over 2.9 billion.”

Of the billions of email users worldwide, a large percentage of them are enterprise personnel who use the Microsoft Outlook desktop client to communicate with employees, customers and partners (refer to the email client market share study from Campaign Monitor). Outlook remains a top pick for business because it does more than send and receive emails; it is a comprehensive workflow to manage and schedule appointments, organize contacts, etc.

But what about enterprise file sharing and collaboration? Though business users commonly use Outlook to send email attachments, there are technical challenges such as the maximum 20 MB file size limit and lack of security features for sending sensitive content. These file sharing challenges may also lead employees to leave their Outlook workflow to use unsecure consumer cloud storage solutions.

Using Thru’s Add-In for Microsoft Outlook, enterprises can increase the value of their workflow by integrating enterprise-class file sharing and management features. With seamless out-of-the-box integration, users can send, track, and manage any size file or folders without leaving the Outlook client.

This post kicks off of a new series from Thru that will demonstrate the different capabilities of Thru Add-In for Microsoft Outlook and its benefits for enterprise users. In this first post, we explain how to securely send files using Thru Add-In for Outlook.

Send Large Files with Thru Directly from Outlook

Thru makes it easy to send large files without leaving the Outlook workflow. With widgets that are seamlessly integrated with the Outlook dashboard, users simply open a New Email in Outlook and click Send with Thru to attach local files or files stored in Thru Cloud. Additionally, users can send a private encrypted message, request recipient login and set an expiration date for file downloads.

All files sent with Thru are accessed by recipients via a link where files can be securely downloaded. If a user selected Request Login, required authentication for all file downloads is activated.

To be certain that customers, employees and partners received sent files, users can choose to receive a Thru notification letting them know that their file package was successfully downloaded. All Thru transactions are tracked and audited for compliance and can be viewed and reported by designated Thru Administrators.
