Yes. Thru is a cloud managed file transfer (MFT) solution, so there are no servers for your team to set up or maintain. You can use SFTP clients or servers as needed because Thru can act as a client or server.
How to Use SFTP to Securely Transfer Files
Situation 1: Source SFTP Server to Target SFTP Server
Thru pulls files from a source SFTP server and pushes them to a target.
Situation 2: Source SFTP Client to Target SFTP Client
The source SFTP client endpoint pushes files to Thru, then the target SFTP client endpoint pulls them.
Situation 3: Source SFTP Server to Target SFTP Client
Thru pulls files from a source SFTP server endpoint. Then, the target client endpoint pulls files from Thru.
Where can I have the SFTP server?
Thru can be deployed in our cloud or in your private Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud.
How much SFTP traffic can Thru handle?

How do customers use SFTP in Thru?
Customers use SFTP for external file transfer and for transfers between cloud applications.
Use Case 1: External File Transfer
A manufacturer and its distributors automatically exchange files daily. These files include incoming inventory reports from the manufacturer to the distributors. The manufacturer uses an SFTP server endpoint while the distributors use a mix of SFTP client and server endpoints. Thru manages these file transfers by acting as a client or server as needed.
Use Case 2: Transfers Between Cloud Applications
An enterprise wants to send payroll files between two cloud applications: its HR platform and its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. It sets up an SFTP client endpoint for both applications to transfer files between them.
The process has 5 steps:
- The HR platform generates payroll files.
- Those files are dropped into the source SFTP client endpoint.
- The source SFTP client pushes them to Thru. In this case, Thru is acting as a server.
- The target SFTP client, which is connected to the ERP system, pulls the files from Thru.
- The files land in the ERP.
